ResumeStudents in the course Contemporary Social Pharmacy worked on a challenge provided by Doctor Vibeke Brix Christensen concerning paracetamol overdose among young people.
ResultThe students worked on a solution that involved producing teaching resources for primary and upper secondary school.
Emma is doing well at school. Good marks. Very ambitious. Many friends on the social media. Parents divorced. Her boyfriend has just broken up with her. Emma has taken an overdose of paracetamol because she is unhappy and feels lonely. This is the second time she overdoses on PCM.
Paracetamol is easy to get hold of. Does not taste bad. Suicide attempts with paracetamol are often spontaneous. Treatment of patients who have overdosed on paracetamol is ‘one-size-fits-all’ with 16 hours of NAC is given asap after the intake.
Learning Goals and Client Expectations
The expectation is to prevent suicide attempts with paracetamol, to find ways of customising the treatment and to prevent further acute liver injury or liver transplantation.
