What Are Medical Devices?
Medical devices are also referred to as medico products and comprise all the equipment used by general practitioners and in hospitals as well as aids, e.g. in home care.
Medical devices are used to prevent, diagnose, alleviate or treat diseases, handicaps or injuries. There are more than 500,000 certified products. These include:
- Surgery devices
- Hip, shoulder and knee implants
- Syringes and needles
- Products for measuring the blood sugar level
- Incontinence products such as pads and catheters
- Ostomy bags
- Pregnancy tests, wheelchairs, glasses, crowns etc.
Registration and marketing
All medical devices must be CE marked before they can be placed on the market. Read more about CE marking here.
Manufacturers, importers and distributors of medical devices as well as specialist shops must register with the Danish Medicines Agency. This registration helps the Danish Medicines Agency promote patient safety by:
- Guiding companies
- Monitoring the market
- Handling adverse events
